My name is Caitlin Waite, and I just graduated with an MA in Writing from the Ooligan Press publishing program at Portland State University. I have been working in the acquisitions, editing, and design departments at Ooligan. I was part of various teams including one that published a YA novel in October 2014, one that put on our annual publishing conference January 2015, and most recently one that designed a math proceedings for an annual conference.

Job Responsibilities:

• Read through proposals and manuscripts and help decide whether Ooligan will acquire.

• Develop marketing plan and pitches for in-house projects, and pitch to the press.

• Write and edit manuscripts, press releases, blog posts, marketing letters, etc. as needed

• Code blog posts in HTML as needed.

• Work on marketing plan, sales kits, and author packets for upcoming titles.

• Research authors for blurbs.

• Use social media to promote books and events.

• Research potential advertising partners.

• Education marketing research for current and backlist titles.

• Develop, plan, promote, and host Write to Publish conference.

 

Marketing Internship | Hawthorne Press

• Update the awards spreadsheet to include new titles

• Apply for awards for upcoming titles

• Send out books as needed for awards and author requests.

• Develop and send pitch document for potential marketing partnership with various airlines,

train/bus lines, and northwest boutique hotels.

• Assist in making acquisitions decisions on promising submissions.

• Copyedit manuscripts for upcoming titles.

• Research comp titles and possible audiences for upcoming titles.

• Read submissions and determine their potential.

• Send rejection letters.

• Follow up on author questions.

• Give feedback to the publisher on submissions with a high potential for publication.

 

 

Head Lifeguard | Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District

July 2006 – December 2014

Job Responsibilities:

• Provide lifeguarding services. Respond to emergency situations and administer aid.

• Teach swim lessons to children ages 0-14, as well as adult lessons.

• Lead and participate in in-service training, orientations and staff meetings as requested.

• Lead staff during swim lessons and open/family/lap swims.

• Train new lifeguards and swim instructors.

• Perform routine pool maintenance and water tests per state standards.

• Instruct Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer courses.

• Assist at the front desk as needed.

• Complete applicable reports and records.

• Perform general housekeeping duties in and around the Swim Center.
